Office Bearers & Committee Members
Troon Chess Club extends a warm welcome to all irrespective of ability. This is reflected in the diverse club competitions aimed at encouraging friendly opposition. There are three teams playing in the three divisions of the Ayrshire Chess League
The Railway and Transport Workers Club offers a relaxing social atmosphere where serious chess is fought out in the function room on the first floor while the laughter and tears are shared in the main bar. Juniors are not allowed in the downstairs bar. In general our junior membership is only suitable for juniors who can play chess on a competitive level with adults. Our venue is unfortunately not suited for juniors who need to be taught how to play chess.
There are other local options available for juniors to learn how to play chess. Check out Powerupchess.co.uk where you can arrange individual or group lessons from Cameron Smith an experienced chess coach who is a member of Troon Chess Club. L’s Little Stars in Portland Street, Troon have also been running chess sessions for juniors. Another option is the Ayrshire Junior Chess Tour events – you can find more details about these events on the Ayrshire Chess Association website ayrshirechess.co.uk
We have a healthy junior membership reflected in the fact that our current club champion is 15 years old!! The club also offers support to many of the local schools and sponsors the Marr trophy competition which is open to juniors who attend Marr College and/or local primary school students who are members of Troon Chess Club.
